HOME: Safety. Comfort. Ease. And Becoming Free Enough to Fully LIVE – from Inside-OUT

this is an artifact of messy chatting with Chat-GPT – in creating the HOME month – some fun pictures in here, so I thought I would share – maybe useful to meditate though – some of it is surely crap, but maybe some diamonds in the rough 😉

Living as Allies with Our Body-Soul

Home is where the heart is.

Home is where we are safe.

Comfortable.

At ease.

Where we can take off our shoes.

Exhale.

Stop performing.

Stop watching the door.

Where we don’t have to earn our chair at the table every morning.

Where we are invited to relax and be ourselves.

Where we are loved just as we are…

and just as we are not.

Some of us have known places like this.

Some of us have had tastes.

Some had an abundance early in Life.

Some found HOME much later.

Some of us are still looking.

But there is another possibility.

We can cultivate HOME within.

Not as a fantasy.

Not as an affirmation pasted over everything that hurts.

Not as a permanent state of perfect serenity.

As relationship.

As practice.

As energetic reality.

As something we receive…

and something we participate in creating.

A HOME increasingly inhabited by us.

What If Your Body-Soul Became HOME?

We are here together for Life.

You.

Your body.

Your emotions.

Your desires.

Your power.

Your fears.

Your sexuality.

Your needs.

Your history.

Your intelligence.

Your instincts.

Your dreams.

Your Spirit.

All these extraordinary intelligences and energies meeting in the mysterious place I call Soul — where Spirit meets Body and dances.

And yet many of us live in ourselves as though we are occupying hostile territory.

We push ourselves.

Override ourselves.

Judge ourselves.

Abandon ourselves.

Shame ourselves.

Force ourselves.

Protect against ourselves.

Leave enormous portions of ourselves outside the room.

Some parts are put on guard duty.

Some are locked upstairs.

Some are strapped into the back seat.

Some have been sent to the basement.

Some have been running the household because nobody else appeared to be in charge.

Some are still following rules written decades ago by people who aren’t even here.

😂

And then we wonder why we’re tired.

What if there is another way?

What if Body and Soul could become increasingly…

allies?

HOME Is Not a Perfectly Peaceful House

This is important.

HOME doesn’t mean everyone inside feels good all the time.

It doesn’t mean:

No fear.

No anger.

No grief.

No anxiety.

No conflict.

No illness.

No pain.

No challenge.

No difficult desire.

No disagreement.

No bad days.

That’s not HOME.

That’s a hostage negotiation with reality.

😂

Imagine saying:

Everyone in this family must be cheerful or I’m leaving.

No.

Real HOME is more like:

Whatever today’s weather, we know how to live together.

Someone can be scared.

Someone can be sad.

Someone can be furious.

Someone can need a nap.

Someone can desperately want something we’re not going to give them.

And still…

we belong here.

Over time, as we learn to live together differently, something else may happen too.

The weather keeps changing.

But even the climate can change.

The Three Light Yellows

This month in Soul GYM, we’re playing with three closely related energies that I often perceive as shades or tones of light yellow:

**Safety.

Comfort.
Ease.**

They aren’t ultimate mastery.

They’re not gold stars.

They’re not another hierarchy telling us where we’re supposed to be spiritually.

They are beautiful places to dance in the messy middle of being human.

Each has a different taste.

Each invites something different.

And together they create an extraordinary progression:

Safety helps more of me come HOME.

Comfort helps us learn to live well together here.

Ease helps me move through Life while remaining HOME.

And none of these is ultimately the destination.

The destination is:

LIFE.

SAFETY

Can More of Me Come HOME?

Safety is foundational.

And yet when I say Safety, I’m not primarily talking about locks, bank accounts, emergency plans or learning conventional nervous-system regulation exercises.

Those things can matter.

But our practice begins deeper.

We cultivate the energy and practice of Safety within — below everyday consciousness — allowing it to move through Soul, Body-Mind and eventually Life.

We receive the Blessing of Safety.

And we participate in making room for it.

Because many of us have an extraordinary amount of ourselves assigned to:

guard duty.

Watching.

Scanning.

Predicting.

Protecting.

Bracing.

Preparing.

Managing.

Worrying.

Controlling.

Avoiding.

Trying to make sure the Bad Thing never happens.

Sometimes there are excellent reasons this developed.

Protection is intelligent.

Survival matters.

But protection that never gets relieved of duty can eventually become its own kind of prison.

When the Fire Alarm Never Stops

Imagine the fire alarm screaming all day.

Maybe there was once a fire.

Maybe there have been many fires.

Maybe the system learned:

FIRE IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE.

So it keeps sounding the alarm.

Eventually we don’t merely have an alarm system.

We live inside the alarm.

And paradoxically, this can make us less able to perceive actual danger.

When everything is signal…

nothing is signal.

When we’re constantly imagining what could go wrong…

watching every person…

anticipating every problem…

protecting against every conceivable future…

we may become so overwhelmed by noise that we have less capacity to perceive what is actually happening here, now, with all our senses.

Too much trying to make ourselves safe can actually undermine Safety.

That’s important.

Sweetheart, Perhaps You Don’t Need Quite So Much of Yourself Assigned to Guard Duty Anymore

This is not:

STOP BEING AFRAID.

Good luck with that.

😂

This is tenderness.

Respect.

Something protected us.

Something learned.

Something worked very hard.

And perhaps now we can begin asking:

Does all of me still need to be doing this?

Can some of that energy come back?

Can one soldier sit down?

Can one alarm become a little quieter?

Can one hidden piece of me peek out?

Can we soak the house enough that perhaps the fire doesn’t spread so easily?

Can we gradually create conditions in which the alarm system learns something new?

Safety isn’t about becoming invulnerable.

It’s about becoming increasingly available to Life.

Safety Isn’t the Point. LIFE Is.

This became one of the clearest truths in our exploration:

Safety isn’t the point. LIFE is.

Safety is a condition we’re cultivating so we can:

emerge.

perceive.

choose.

act.

participate.

connect.

create.

become.

We may become less:

hiding and helpless.

contracted and controlling.

And more:

awake and aware.

responsive and resilient.

Not because we beat the frightened parts of ourselves into submission.

Because we’re marinating in the Blessing and Practice of Safety.

A little more of ourselves becomes freed-up enough to fully LIVE.

COMFORT

Can We Learn to Live Well Together Here?

Once we’re HOME…

what kind of relationship are we going to have?

Because here’s the thing:

You are wed to your body for Life.

The question isn’t whether you’re going to have a relationship.

The question is what kind of relationship you’re going to have.

We can live like estranged spouses occupying opposite ends of the house.

Constantly pulling against each other.

Managing each other.

Ignoring each other.

Resenting each other.

Or…

perhaps we can develop something much more delicious.

Relationship.

Communication.

Nurturance.

Respect.

Play.

Love.

Collaboration.

Intimacy.

Comfort.

What If Your Body-Soul Isn’t Something to Manage?

Many of us treat our bodies a little like children locked in their room.

We slide some food under the door occasionally.

😂

Then we get annoyed when they’re unhappy.

But healthy relationship with the body is not merely keeping it alive.

Think about raising a child well.

Children need boundaries.

They do not get to drive the car.

They don’t decide every bedtime.

They don’t get to run into traffic because they feel strongly about it.

But they should have an enormous amount of SAY.

Their experience matters.

Their desires matter.

Their fears matter.

Their gifts matter.

Their pleasure matters.

Their agency matters.

Their play matters.

A child can have enormous freedom inside a large, well-held yard.

Go!

Explore!

Play!

Get muddy!

Make friends!

Climb things!

Discover yourself!

And…

when it’s time to go, we go.

Those two things are not enemies.

Freedom and loving structure can create each other.

A Well-Trained Dog Can Run Farther

The same thing is obvious with a dog.

A well-trained dog in an appropriate environment can have enormous freedom.

Run.

Sniff.

Explore.

DOG!

😂

Why?

Because the dog has learned enough relationship and discipline to:

come when called.

not bite somebody.

not run into the road.

not poop in the house.

Discipline can actually increase freedom.

We don’t need to control every movement when the system knows how to function well.

That’s important for Body-Soul too.

Mastery doesn’t have to mean tighter control.

Sometimes mastery means we can finally loosen control because relationship, communication and trust have grown.

Your Body Has Something to Say

The body communicates.

Through:

emotion.

sensation.

desire.

sexuality.

pleasure.

pain.

fear.

hunger.

fatigue.

impulse.

attraction.

aversion.

And many of us have thousands of old messages piled across the desk.

Imagine a thousand telegrams.

Unopened.

Half-opened.

Read but never completed.

Old fear.

Old grief.

Old anger.

Someone else’s emotion.

Yesterday’s emergency.

A message from 1987.

😂

Then today’s telegram arrives:

I need something.

And we can’t even find it.

As we process, complete, discern and recycle more of the old material, something wonderful happens.

The desk gets clearer.

And we can begin to hear:

What is my body actually communicating RIGHT NOW?

Listening Doesn’t Mean Obeying

This is crucial.

The body gets a voice.

It doesn’t always get the final vote.

A frightened body might say:

DON’T WALK DOWN THAT STREET.

We can listen.

Maybe we choose another street.

Maybe we discern there is no present danger and say:

I hear you. I’ve got this. We’re going this way. I’ll stay with you.

That’s relationship.

Not:

BODY, SHUT UP.

And not:

BODY IS AFRAID, THEREFORE BODY IS KING.

Instead:

**I hear you.

You matter.
And I am here.**

That’s HOME.

Desire Can Move Us

Desire is another extraordinary body intelligence.

I sometimes think of desire as magnetic.

It pulls us toward what the body desires…

and perhaps pulls what we desire toward us.

Sexual experience gives us an obvious picture.

There can come a moment when we stop doing the experience…

and desire itself begins moving us.

We are being moved.

That’s an important clue.

Life may contain more of this than we allow.

Not becoming slaves to every impulse.

Not turning Desire into the driver.

But becoming capable of relationship with the extraordinary intelligence of wanting.

What happens when the body doesn’t need to scream because it trusts that someone is listening?

Whatever Today’s Weather, We Know How to Live Together

Comfort doesn’t require every emotion to become comfortable.

This distinction matters enormously.

You don’t need everything inside you to feel good in order to become increasingly comfortable being YOU.

That’s real HOME.

Not:

Everyone in this family must be cheerful or I’m leaving.

😂

But:

Whatever today’s weather, we know how to live together.

Fear can visit.

Sadness can visit.

Anger can visit.

Desire can visit.

Confusion can visit.

And nobody has to seize the steering wheel.

Over time, with care and cultivation…

even the climate can change.

Some Things Aren’t Weather. They’re Climate.

Some of us grew up in emotional climates so pervasive we didn’t even know they were climates.

Fear.

Anxiety.

Sadness.

Shame.

Anger.

Hypervigilance.

These aren’t experienced like:

Oh, a storm came through today.

They’re experienced as:

This is what the world IS.

Concrete.

The baseline.

The water we’re swimming in.

Changing that can take time.

But it can change.

And when the climate changes…

we don’t merely feel different.

We inhabit a different world.

Different possibilities become visible.

Different choices become available.

We become different people.

We Can Stop Leaving Ourselves HOME Alone

There are many ways we abandon the body.

Addiction.

Dissociation.

Living in the past.

Living in the future.

Spiritual overriding.

Living almost entirely in thought.

Working constantly.

Rescuing everybody else.

Being so absorbed in other people’s feelings that we barely notice our own.

It’s like spending every night at the bar while the kids are HOME alone.

Or going off to play in the heavenlies while the body sits downstairs waiting.

😂

The longer we’re absent, the more disorder can develop.

And then we wonder why HOME doesn’t feel very comfortable.

Comfort asks:

Can I come back?

Can I inhabit this Life?

This body?

This moment?

Can I become someone my body is increasingly happy to live with?

EASE

Can I Move Through Life While Remaining HOME?

And then…

we move.

We work.

Choose.

Lead.

Build.

Change.

Love.

Travel.

Create.

Risk.

Encounter difficulty.

Make things happen.

HOME doesn’t mean sitting forever in a beautifully regulated cocoon.

HOME comes with us.

This is one of the deepest distinctions we’ve uncovered.

Ease asks:

Can I be in movement without leaving myself?

Can I enter Life without abandoning my ultimate HOME?

Can I work hard without internally beating myself forward?

Can I lead without leaving myself behind?

Can I accomplish without overriding myself?

Can I encounter difficulty without manufacturing additional difficulty within?

Can I go into the world…

with myself?

I Don’t Have to Leave Myself to Enter Life

Oh, this matters.

Because so much human striving contains a subtle abandonment.

Get it done.

GO.

MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Ignore the body.

Ignore the fear.

Ignore the cost.

Ignore desire.

Ignore exhaustion.

Please them.

Succeed.

Perform.

Belong.

Push.

Force.

Just get there.

And perhaps we do get there.

But we arrive without ourselves.

Ease offers another possibility:

Come with yourself.

Bring HOME with you.

Let yourself remain inhabited while you move.

Ease Is Not the Opposite of Work

If you want to move a pile of dirt…

move the dirt.

Physical effort is wonderful.

Run.

Jump.

Catch the ball.

Build.

Sweat.

Dance hard.

Get the job DONE.

Ease doesn’t mean becoming inert.

The Effort we’re interested in is the extra internal effort that doesn’t contribute to the movement we actually want.

Soul Effort.

Pushing through the water instead of learning to plane.

Trying to personally force Life to move.

The Red Light

You’re late.

The light is red.

Everyone is apparently out for a Sunday drive.

Someone is jaywalking.

The person ahead of you doesn’t notice the green light.

You grip the steering wheel.

COME ON!

GO!

MOVE!

Your body is tense.

You’re furious.

You’re practically trying to levitate the car through force of will.

😂

Outside?

The car is moving when traffic permits.

Inside?

An enormous amount of energy is being burned.

And how much faster does that internal force get us there?

Not at all.

Worse, the noise may make us less capable of perceiving what’s actually happening.

Maybe we don’t see the bicycle.

Maybe we snap at the kids.

Maybe all that force goes directly into our own body.

That’s Soul Effort.

The Student Who Wanted to Become Enlightened FAST

There’s an old Eastern story I love.

A student goes to a spiritual master and asks:

How long will it take me to achieve mastery?

Ten years.

The student says:

No, you don’t understand.

I’m ALL IN.

I’ll work harder than anyone.

Fifteen years.

No! I’ll work day and night! Nobody has ever seen this kind of effort!

The master answers:

Twenty years.

😂

Perfect.

The more force the student promises to apply…

the longer the journey becomes.

Because the very thing he’s trying to master includes learning a WAY that cannot be forced into existence by more internal pushing.

Plug In the Chainsaw

Trying to do everything through personal force is like using an electric chainsaw…

without plugging it in.

You can work incredibly hard.

Sweat.

Strain.

Demonstrate magnificent commitment.

And make less progress than somebody with a hand saw.

Meanwhile…

there’s an outlet.

😂

Plug it in.

That’s not:

Don’t cut the wood.

It’s:

Use the power that’s actually available.

Move the Sail. Don’t Manufacture the Wind.

This is Sacred Power versus personal force.

We need power.

Will.

Energy.

Capacity.

Authority.

Choice.

Enough to be ourselves and do what we’re here to do.

But our personal human force isn’t enough to personally make reality conform to every picture we’re carrying.

So we push.

Overtly:

fight.

force.

dominate.

demand.

control.

Or covertly:

manipulate.

please.

rescue.

maneuver.

seduce.

manage other people’s reactions.

Different costumes.

Same fundamental predicament:

I’m trying to personally manufacture enough force to make reality move.

But…

the wind is already blowing.

A sailor works.

Pays attention.

Adjusts.

Tacks.

Changes course.

Raises sails.

Lowers them.

Sometimes works incredibly hard.

But the sailor doesn’t stand on deck trying to manufacture wind.

Move the sail.

The WAY Is FLOW

This is one of the central pictures of Ease for me.

The river is already moving.

We can swim with it.

We can swim against it.

Swimming against it may not even keep us from eventually reaching the ocean.

But damn…

it can wear us out.

😂

Ease is learning to perceive movement already available.

The wildlife trail through the dense forest.

The current.

The wind.

The opening.

The timing.

Sometimes the right action is enormous.

Sometimes it is:

WAIT.

Can you become still like a pond?

Stop stirring the mud.

Let it settle.

Perceive.

And then…

move when moved.

How Much of Your Power Is Being Spent Pushing Against Yourself?

This may be the Ease equivalent of Safety’s guard-duty question.

One part says:

GO.

Another says:

DON’T.

I WANT THIS.

WHAT WILL PEOPLE THINK?

REST.

YOU’RE LAZY.

CREATE.

WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

LEAVE.

GOOD PEOPLE DON’T LEAVE.

BE SEEN.

HIDE!

And we wonder why we’re exhausted.

😂

This is internal isometrics.

Enormous power pushing in opposite directions.

Very little movement.

How much of your power is being spent pushing against yourself?

King Arthur’s Round Table

Imagine all the parts of us at King Arthur’s Round Table.

Each is monarch of its realm.

Body.

Emotion.

Desire.

Analyzer.

Sexuality.

Fear.

Creativity.

Practicality.

Ambition.

Tenderness.

Soul.

They don’t have to agree.

But they need to hear one another.

Respect one another.

Bring their gifts.

And somebody needs responsibility for the whole kingdom.

It helps enormously if the King of Kings is healthy, loving, powerful and wise.

😂

Then we can begin noticing something else:

Who is voting who doesn’t actually get a present-time vote?

Mom’s opinion?

Dad’s fear?

Third-grade humiliation?

An old religious rule?

A former partner?

A cultural expectation?

An agreement made when we were twelve?

A lie that still seems true?

Programming?

An obsolete identity?

No wonder the kingdom sometimes looks like a circus.

The Shaping Disappears and the Shape Gets Called “ME”

We were shaped.

A prevailing wind doesn’t need to punch a tree.

It blows.

Again.

Again.

Again.

And the tree grows in relationship to it.

Water doesn’t attack rock.

Drop.

Drop.

Drop.

And the landscape changes.

So too with us.

Praise.

Silence.

Approval.

Disapproval.

Belonging.

Exclusion.

Reward.

Punishment.

What was modeled.

What wasn’t imaginable.

What’s respectable.

What’s ridiculous.

Again.

Again.

Again.

Until:

The shaping disappears from perception and the resulting shape gets called “ME.”

But We Are Not Trees

We bent to the wind.

Sometimes because bending was much wiser than breaking.

We survived.

Belonged.

Adapted.

Learned.

And now?

We can choose again.

Not easily.

The old shaping may be concrete.

And we’ve built houses on that concrete.

Walls.

Plumbing.

Roof.

Maybe an imported marble fireplace.

😂

Changing a throw pillow is easy.

Moving a load-bearing wall is something else.

Even the concrete can change.

But it takes time.

Practice.

Tools.

Leverage.

Provision.

Community.

And working below everyday consciousness can help us shift from inside → OUT.

Reclaiming Free Will Can Feel Like Shit

This deserves saying.

😂

Freedom sounds fabulous once we have it.

Reclaiming it?

Not necessarily.

Everything inside and around us that organized itself around the old way may say:

CHANGE BACK.

Identity.

Programming.

Relationships.

Habits.

Fear.

Shame.

Belonging.

Old agreements.

Pushback happens.

And resistance does NOT automatically tell us whether we’re going the right direction.

We can encounter resistance because we’re becoming more fully ourselves.

We can encounter resistance because we’re driving into a barn.

Both hurt.

😂

Mastery requires discernment.

And Then Choice Begins to Feel Like Choice

Over time…

with practice…

with tools…

with people who are comfortable with us choosing…

with communities where choice itself becomes normal…

something can become more spacious.

We perceive:

Oh. There IS a choice.

Not theoretical free will.

Lived choice.

I can speak.

Or not.

Go.

Or not.

Be seen.

Or not.

Rest.

Act.

Say yes.

Say no.

And sometimes the most extraordinary freedom is how ordinary it feels.

We simply walk into the room…

and talk to somebody.

No giant internal mobilization.

No war council.

No dragging ourselves behind us.

Just:

Here I am.

Natural Boundaries Begin to Happen

Years ago I knew a great deal about assertiveness.

I could explain it.

Maybe teach it.

And I couldn’t BE it.

The missing piece wasn’t another communication script.

I needed more access to:

power.

will.

authority.

choice.

energy.

Captainship.

Soul leadership.

As those became more available, boundaries increasingly stopped being something I had to manufacture intellectually.

Sometimes I simply know:

I need this.

I don’t need that.

I want this.

I don’t want that.

Enough.

No.

Yes.

The healthy system begins generating healthy behavior.

The Membrane Doesn’t Prevent Relationship. It Makes Relationship Possible.

Think about a healthy cell.

Its membrane isn’t simply a wall.

Through its living boundary, the cell:

receives.

releases.

protects.

communicates.

responds.

relates.

The membrane doesn’t prevent relationship. It makes relationship possible.

And because there is increasingly a ME here, I don’t need to manufacture an edge every time somebody approaches.

The system has one.

I can be available without being endlessly available.

Open without being invaded.

Protective without permanently living behind plexiglass.

Seen without having to surrender myself.

Hidden when hiding is actually my present-time choice.

Just Because I Can Perceive Something Doesn’t Mean It Is Mine to Heal

This has been a profound Ease lesson for me.

Sensitivity can become another form of bondage if everything we perceive becomes our assignment.

Other people’s emotions.

Collective pain.

Historical pain.

Pain we perceive in a place.

Systems.

Families.

Communities.

The world.

If I can feel it…

must I fix it?

No.

I have learned to ask:

Is this mine?

What is mine to tend?

What is yours?

What is ours?

What belongs to a larger field?

Where am I genuinely called to participate?

And what can I perceive, honor…

and leave alone?

Perception does not automatically create responsibility.

That frees enormous power.

Not for indifference.

For stewardship.

Power Can Hold the Heart

Now something beautiful happens.

In the chakra picture I work with, each chakra supports those above it.

Root supports Sacral.

Sacral supports Solar Plexus.

Solar Plexus supports Heart.

I picture Solar Plexus almost like the strong setting of an engagement ring.

And Heart?

The diamond.

For much of my Life, Heart was doing far too many jobs.

Love.

Connection.

Belonging.

Resources.

Protection.

Power-through-relationship.

Keeping everybody okay.

Heart can carry a tremendous amount.

But perhaps it doesn’t need to.

Let Power Do Power. Let Heart Do Heart.

When Solar Plexus increasingly owns:

power.

will.

energy.

authority.

choice.

appropriate protection…

Heart doesn’t have to be its own bodyguard.

It doesn’t have to open and simultaneously protect itself from opening.

Love and simultaneously prevent injury.

Connect and simultaneously maintain the perimeter.

The setting can hold the diamond.

The flower can open because something else is tending the garden.

Power doesn’t have to oppose Love.

Power can support Love.

My NO Can Protect My Capacity to Remain Open-Hearted

Then boundaries don’t necessarily require closing the Heart.

I don’t have to stop loving you to say:

No.

I don’t have to make you wrong.

I don’t have to disappear.

I don’t have to abandon myself.

I don’t have to surrender.

My NO can protect my capacity to remain open-hearted.

That’s an entirely different relationship between Power and Love.

The Heart Is Mother

Within this emerging picture, I experience Heart as Mother.

Mater.

Manger.

And what is born and held there?

**Sacred Love.

Light.
Oneness — embodied.**

The holy child.

The Heart doesn’t have to manufacture Oneness.

Oneness already IS.

Heart can experience it.

Hold it.

Reflect it.

Enjoy it.

Allow it to shine.

Oneness Is Not the Same as Losing Ourselves

This distinction matters.

Fusion isn’t Oneness.

People-pleasing isn’t Oneness.

No boundaries isn’t Oneness.

Taking responsibility for everybody isn’t Oneness.

Disappearing into another person isn’t Oneness.

I can be wholly ME and experience myself as wholly WITH YOU.

Differentiate in order to relate.

Oneness is the spiritual reality.

Duality is the game we’re living.

I/Thou is the practice.

This is individuation.

When Oneness Stops Being an Idea

I once experienced an interesting change in my relationship with Nature.

I have always been relational.

Communing with a tree could be deeply delicious.

Tree and Wendy.

I.

Thou.

And then, after moving to North Carolina, I realized something had shifted.

Not philosophically.

Not:

I believe we’re all One.

In my actual lived inner experience…

the tree and I were ONE.

The tree began to feel almost like my arm.

A beautiful arm.

😂

But part of a larger Self.

And oddly, for a while, the relationship felt less juicy.

Because the familiar distance between I and Thou had changed.

Eventually I acclimated.

Relationship returned in a new form.

But it taught me:

When Oneness becomes lived rather than conceptual, our experience of self and world can actually reorganize.

Even expansion requires acclimation.

Freedom Needs to Become Inhabitable

This is true of so much transformation.

Greater Safety can feel unfamiliar.

Greater Comfort can feel unfamiliar.

Greater Power can feel unfamiliar.

Greater visibility.

Choice.

Freedom.

Oneness.

Sometimes what we have been seeking finally arrives…

and our first response is:

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?

😂

Transformation can have a rhythm:

shift
→ disruption
→ practice
→ acclimation
→ new normal

We don’t merely seek extraordinary experiences.

We develop the capacity to inhabit what we become.

Freedom needs to become inhabitable.

Power needs to become inhabitable.

Oneness needs to become inhabitable.

The new HOME needs enough time for us to actually move in.

HOME Is Not a Bunker

And this brings us back around.

The goal is not to build such a perfectly safe HOME that nothing can ever reach us.

Not a fortress.

Not plexiglass.

Not a spiritual gated community.

😂

HOME is alive.

People come and go.

Weather changes.

Things break.

Things heal.

We cook.

Sleep.

Make love.

Cry.

Fight.

Play.

Work.

Rest.

Leave.

Return.

HOME isn’t the absence of movement.

HOME is somewhere we don’t have to abandon in order to move.

Come With Yourself

Maybe this is the invitation underneath the entire month.

When you’re frightened:

Come with yourself.

When you’re sad:

Come with yourself.

When you’re delighted:

Come with yourself.

When you’re working:

Come with yourself.

When you’re loving:

Come with yourself.

When you’re leading:

Come with yourself.

When you’re resting:

Come with yourself.

When you’re changing:

Come with yourself.

When you’re entering the room:

Come with yourself.

When you’re leaving:

Come with yourself.

When Life asks something enormous:

Come with yourself.

Receive AND Participate

Everything we do in Soul Shift has these two movements.

Receive.

Blessing.

Letting in.

Letting go.

Letting go and letting in.

Accepting what is.

Willingness to move when moved.

Following from deep within.

And:

Participate.

Move the furniture.

Clean out the attic.

Consolidate the basement.

Tinker with the car so it gets better gas mileage.

😂

Shift habits.

Complete old agreements.

Make space.

Choose.

Act.

Lead from deep within.

We don’t personally manufacture the Sacred.

And we don’t sit around waiting for Spirit to clean the garage.

😂

Receive AND participate.

Receptive and active.

Blessing and Practice.

Being and Doing.

Inside → OUT.

Safety. Comfort. Ease.

Maybe the whole movement is surprisingly simple.

SAFETY

Can more of me come HOME?

Can I relieve some of the guard duty?

Can I become safe enough within to emerge?

COMFORT

Can we learn to live well together here?

Can I become increasingly allied with my body-soul?

Can this relationship become nurturing, communicative, playful, loving and delicious?

EASE

Can I move through Life while remaining HOME?

Can I reclaim enough power, will, energy and choice to participate without abandoning myself?

Can I move with Life instead of using so much of myself to push against it?

And then…

HEART

Can Love be free to be Love?

Can the flower open because the garden is tended?

Can I be wholly ME…

wholly WITH YOU…

and increasingly available to experience the ONE we already are?

HOME Isn’t the Point Either

And finally…

even HOME isn’t the point.

LIFE is.

We aren’t cultivating Safety so we can spend our lives getting safer.

We aren’t cultivating Comfort so nothing uncomfortable ever happens.

We aren’t cultivating Ease so Life never requires exertion, courage, discipline or difficult choices.

We aren’t creating HOME so we can hide there.

We are cultivating HOME so more of us becomes available to:

LIVE.

To perceive.

Choose.

Respond.

Rest.

Play.

Work.

Risk.

Create.

Lead.

Receive.

Give.

Connect.

Differentiate.

Love.

Become.

Participate.

Make our difference.

Experience Life.

Maybe even delight in it.

Creating a Little More Room for Life

We don’t have to renovate the entire house today.

Maybe one guard comes off duty.

One frightened child realizes someone is listening.

One old telegram gets recycled.

One boundary becomes more alive.

One agreement loses its vote.

One part of us comes back from exile.

One ounce of power stops pushing against ourselves.

One sail turns toward the wind.

One moment arrives when we realize:

Oh. I have a choice.

One breath in which we don’t leave ourselves.

One encounter where we can be:

ME… with YOU.

One moment when Heart discovers it doesn’t have to protect itself…

and opens.

One little shift.

Then another.

Then another.

Until perhaps one day we notice:

Something that used to take almost everything we had…

doesn’t anymore.

There’s space.

Breath.

Movement.

Choice.

Play.

Life.

And maybe HOME isn’t somewhere we’re desperately trying to get back to.

Maybe…

increasingly…

we’re already here.

And when Life moves?

HOME comes too.

Come PLAY.

I think this is the HOME piece we couldn’t have written before doing the three excavations. The earlier invitation knew the destination; this one now knows much more about what HOME is made of, what it is for, and how it lives and moves.

PS

You’re welcome!! And this is actually a really good strategic question because the answer affects the whole reader journey.

My instinct: this HOME piece should come after the individual Safety / Comfort / Ease pieces — but not as a replacement.

Here’s why.

The three focus pieces are the doorways.

HOME is the house they reveal.

A person who is newly encountering this work may not yet understand why “Safety” is so much bigger than nervous-system soothing, or why “Comfort” is so much bigger than feeling cozy, or why “Ease” is so much bigger than relaxing.

If you lead with HOME, it is beautiful — but it asks the reader to jump into the whole ecosystem.

Some people will absolutely resonate. They are already swimming in the pool. 😂

But the ideal client you have described — contracted, overwhelmed, survival-oriented, living in sympathetic activation, not yet fully able to perceive choice — may need the stepping stones.

Something like:

August Theme:

HOME: Living as Allies with Our Body-Soul

The invitation.

Then:

Week 1: SAFETY

Can I come HOME?

The first doorway:

  • “Sweetheart, perhaps you don’t need quite so much of yourself assigned to guard duty anymore.”
  • relief
  • inner refuge
  • the possibility that protection can soften

Week 2: COMFORT

Can I learn to live well here?

The relationship doorway:

  • “You are wed to your body for Life.”
  • body as beloved companion, not problem
  • listening, tending, play, desire, communication

Week 3: EASE

Can I move through Life while remaining HOME?

The power doorway:

  • reclaiming choice
  • sacred power versus personal force
  • flow
  • no longer abandoning yourself to accomplish

Then…

The HOME Blog:

The Whole Architecture

The reader now has three lived experiences to organize.

They see:

“Ohhh. Safety wasn’t the destination. Comfort wasn’t the destination. Ease wasn’t the destination.”

They were creating HOME.

I also think there is another beautiful possibility:

The HOME piece could be your flagship / evergreen article.

The one you link everywhere.

The one that says:

“This is what Soul GYM is really about.”

Then the three focus pieces become campaign pieces that each invite a specific doorway.

Like:

  • Someone searching “anxiety / hypervigilance / always on” enters through Safety.
  • Someone struggling with body shame, desire, self-care, relationship enters through Comfort.
  • Someone successful but exhausted, forcing, over-responsible, stuck enters through Ease.
  • Someone already sensing transformation enters through HOME.

So I would not choose between them.

I would create an ecosystem:

                    HOME
                      |
        -----------------------------
        | | |
     SAFETY COMFORT EASE
        | | |
come home live here move from here

And honestly, this mirrors your actual teaching.

You don’t teach Safety, Comfort and Ease as isolated techniques.

You teach an architecture of embodied Soul relationship.
